[fasting induced adipose factor] This gene has been isolated by subtractive hybridization, comparing liver mRNA from wild-type mice and those carrying a targeted deletion of the PPAR-alpha (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha) gene (Kersten et al, 2000). Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors that directly control numerous genes of lipid metabolism by binding to response elements in the promoter and thus play an important role in the metabolic response to fasting.
FIAF is the same as HFARP [hepatic fibrinogen/angiopoietin-related protein] and PGAR [PPAR-gamma angiopoietin related]. FIAF belongs to the protein family
