The designation eyk stands for East Lansing Tyrosine Kinase, East Lansing being the place where the RPL30 virus was isolated originally (Jia and Hanafusa, 1994).
c-eyk is the chicken cellular homolog of the v-ryk viral oncogene encoded by chicken acute oncogenic retrovirus RPL30 (Jia et al, 1992). The cellular counterpart of v-ryk has been renamed eyk (Jia and Hanafusa, 1994) as the designation ryk [for: related to tyrosine kinase] is used also for an unrelated murine
