[ET-cell]
[external tufted cells] This cell type is one of several morphologically and functionally distinct neurons found in the glomeruli of the olfactory bulb. These neurons play a pivotal role in the operation of olfactory glomerular circuits (Hayar et al, 2004; De Saint Jan et al, 2009; Kosaka and Kosaka, 2011; Kiyokage et al, 2010). See also: JG cells [juxtaglomerular cells].
The single dendrite of ET-cells arborizes extensively in one glomerulus, and the axon projects out of the glomerular layer, and generate spontaneous bursts of action potentials (Pinching and Powell, 1971, 1971; Macrides and Schneider, 1982; Hayar et al, 2004).
