This peptide, termed SP6001 by the authors, has been identified by bioinformatics analysis. The sequence is derived from a DEAH box helicase protein (DHX15 [DEAH box polypeptide 15]) and has been shown to be a potent inducer of endothelial cell apoptosis in the presence of bFGF and VEGF, causing the release of caspase-3 and caspase-7. It also reduces endothelial cell migration (Koshimaki et al, 2012).
SP6001 is potent in reducing tumor angiogenesis when administered i.p. or s.c. in mice bearing xenotransplanted breast cancer cells
