[EGF-like repeat]
The EGF-(epidermal growth factor)-like sequence domain (abbr. EGFL) is variously referred to as EGF-like cysteine-rich repeated motif, EGF-like domain, or EGF-like module, and also EGF-L domain.
These repeat domains have a length of approximately 40 amino acids and are characterized by a conserved arrangement of six cysteine residues found also in EGF itself. These residues form three evenly spaced disulfide bonds. Some of these repeats are recognized by antibodies directed against EGF (Apella et al, 1988).
Proteins with EGF-like domains are often quite large (>1000 amino acids) and have multiple copies of this
