[dipeptidyl peptidase 4] DPP4 is a membrane glycoprotein serine exopeptidase that cleaves X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptide chains. The cDNA has been cloned by Misumi et al (1992) and Tanaka et al (1992). Genomic organization, localization, and tissue expression have been reported by Abbot et al (1994).
DPP4 has been shown to be involved in extracellular matrix remodeling and fibrogenic activity (Lessard et al, 2015; Rinkevich et al, 2015).
The enzyme has been shown to play a role in the processing and inactivation of a number of regulatory peptides and hormones (Mentlein, 1999), which includes the incretins GLP-1 [glucagon-like peptide-1] and GIP [
