[downstream of the liposarcoma-associated fusion oncoprotein 54] The gene encoding this protein has been cloned cloned as a downstream target gene of the FUS-DDIT3 chimera, which is the fusion gene that characterizes myxoid liposarcoma. DOL54 expression is activated in primary fibroblasts by the expression of the TLS-CHOP oncoprotein, a fusion between the transcription factor gadd153 and the N-terminus of an RNA-binding protein TLS/FUS.
The DOL54 protein is associated closely with adipogenic differentiation. DOL54 overexpression in Chinese hamster ovary cells yields cells that grow as tumors in nude mice
