[DNA methyltransferase 3B; DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferase 3B; DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferase 3-beta]
The gene structure of the human gene have been described by Xu et al (1999), Xie et al (1999), and Yanagisawa et al (2002). DNMT3B is an enzyme required for genome-wide de novo methylation of DNA. It is one of several DNA methyltransferases (DNMT1, DNMT3A) that cooperate and provide an epigenetic basis for transcriptional repression and gene silencing (de novo DNA methylation), as well as maintenance of genome integrity by cooperatively regulating cytosine methylation in CpG dinucleotides (Chen T et al, 2003; Oka M et al, 2006; Bachman et al, 2001; Xu et al, 1999; Robertson et al, 1999; Kim GD et al, 2002).
