Crustins are antimicrobial peptides unique to the Crustacea, identified originally in the hemocytes of the crab Carcinus maenas (see: carcinin) and later also in penaeid shrimps and other crustacean species. Practically all peptides contain a WAP domain known to be of importance for antimicrobial activity as defense peptides.
CruFc is an antimicrobial peptide from the Chinese shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis. The protein has been shown to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (Zhang et al, 2007). CshFc is a variant of CruFc that lacks the WAP domain. CruFc inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria
