[CARD only protein] Also: Cop-1 [CARD only protein-1]. The approved gene symbol is CARD16 [caspase recruitment domain-containing protein-16]. The protein is identical with Pseudo-ICE [Pseudo-interleukin-1-beta converting enzyme].
Cop has a high degree of sequence identity to the prodomain of caspase-1 and is able to bind to this prodomain (Lee et al, 2001). Binding of Cop to the CARD domain of procaspase-1 results in inhibition of caspase-1 activation. Cop also binds to the serine/threonine kinase RIP2 and inhibits caspase-1 oligomerization induced by RIP2.
