[Caseinolytic peptidase B] this bacterial heat shock protein is produced mainly by the Enterobacteriaceae family, including Escherichia coli. Tennoune N et al (2014) have identified ClpB as a conformational antigen mimetic of alpha-MSH, an anorexigenic peptide hormone critically involved in the regulation of energy homeostasis in humans and animals. ClpB-immunized mice produce anti-ClpB IgG crossreactive with alpha-MSH, influencing food intake, body weight, anxiety and melanocortin receptor 4 signaling. Breton et al (2016) have reported that ClpB stimulates firing rate of hypothalamic POMC neurons.
