This enzyme (EC3.4.21.39), called also Chymase 1, Mast cell chymase, or Mast cell protease-1 (abbr. sometimes MCPT-1 [Mast cell protease-1]; abbr. and approved gene symbol: CMA1). Chymase is the only human chymase that has been classified as Alpha-Chymase (often used synonymously with the term Chymase for the human enzyme), and it is considered the phylogenetic homolog of rodent Mcpt5 or Mcp5 [Mast cell protease-5] (Caughey, 2007).
