CRH

[Corticotropin releasing hormone]. This hormone of 41 amino acids (SEEPPISLDLTFHLLREVLEMARAEQLAQQAHSNRKLMEIIamide) is known also as CRF [Corticotropin releasing factor] or corticoliberin (Anonymus, 1975). The hormone is secreted by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (Guillemin and Rosenberg, 1955; Saffran and Schally, 1955). The protein is derived by enzymatic cleavage from a 191 amino acid preproprotein (Shibahara et al, 1983). CRH is expressed also in placenta (Grino et al, 1987). In placenta, expression by cytotrophoblasts is under negative control of glucocorticoids (Robinson et al, 1988).
