[Cytomegalovirus IL10] CMV IL10 is encoded by open reading frame UL111a within the human cytomegalovirus (CMV) genome (Cytomegalovirus UL111a protein). The viral protein and human IL10 show 27 % identity (Kotenko et al, 2000). For a related transcript see also: UL111.5A.
The structure of the CMV IL10 gene is unique. The viral gene retains two of four introns of the IL10 gene, but the length of the introns is reduced. The viral protein is expressed from a spliced transcript.
