[CtBP-interacting BTB zinc finger protein] This protein has been identified by Sasai et al (2005) as an interactor of the transcriptional co-repressor C-terminal binding protein (CtBP), which plays a role in development and oncogenesis. The rat ortholog has been identified independently as ZENON [zinc finger gene expressed in neurons], which is a DNA binding protein associated with differentiation and/or survival of late postmitotic neurons and can serve as a marker of mature neurons (Kiefer et al, 2005). The protein has been named also Zbtb38 [zinc finger and BTB domain containing protein 38].
