A human lymphoblastoid B-cell line expressing the cell surface marker CD43 (leukocyte sialoglycoprotein sialophorin). The cell line was established from peripheral blood cells of a patient with myelomonocytic leukemia and immortalized by transformation with Epstein Barr virus.
CESS cells used in bioassays (see also: cytokine assays) of B-cell differentiation factors (see: BCDF) and T-cell replacing factors. The activities of these factors are determined by measuring the induction of the synthesis of immunoglobulins, which is observed only after the stimulation of the cells
