The human CEG1 gene has been identified by Fu et al (2004). The protein of 446 amino acids contains an EGF-like domain and a C-type lectin domain. In mouse and chicken embryos CEG1 is expressed specifically in the brain. CEG1 is expressed widely in mature mouse organs. Sequence analysis shows that the protein is CLEC14A [C-type lectin domain family 14 member A].
