[Cytolethal distending toxin] This toxin is produced by a variety of bacterial species. The toxin consists of a complex of three proteins, termed CDTA [cytolethal distending toxin A], CDTB [cytolethal distending toxin B], CDTC [cytolethal distending toxin C], all of which are required for toxin activity and are expressed coordinately in the form of an operon (Lara-Tejero and Galan, 2001). The subunits form a functional heterotrimeric holotoxin in a 1:1:1 ratio.
