The presence of CD44 and the absence of the lymphoid homing receptor CD62L define a subset of antigen-exposed murine CD8(+) memory T-cells, Effector Memory T-cells (Sprent and Surh, 2011). The cells also express other markers (Newell et al, 2012), and the population comprises further identifiable subpopulations further away from the naive subpopulations than the Effector Memory T-cells subpopulations, suggesting that the Effector Memory T-cells and naive phenotypes are more similar (Shekhar et al, 2014).
