(approved gene symbol) [CD2 binding protein 2; CD2 cytoplasmic domain-binding protein 2; CD2 tail-binding protein 2] CD2BP2 has been identified independently as KIAA1178.
The gene encoding this protein has been cloned by Nishizawa et al (1998). The encoded protein binds specifically to the cytoplasmic tail of CD2 via a GYF domain that recognizes proline-rich sequence motifs on the CD2 cytoplasmic tail. The protein is involved in T-cell cell activation. Transfection studies show that CD2BP2 expression selectively enhances IL2 production on crosslinking of CD2.
