[Cryptic Antiproliferative Fibronectin Fragment] CAFF is a 29 kDa aminoterminal, heparin-binding fragment of fibronectin that is generated by proteolytic cleavage. This fragment has strong antiproliferative activities in Schwann cells and is produced by Schwann cells, which also produce the activating enzyme (identical with, or related to, stromelysin) (Muir and Manthorpe, 1992).
