[complement C1q; complement component 1 q; complement component C1q; complement factor C1q] C1q is a component of the complement system. C1q is the first component of the classical activation pathway of the complement system (Walport, 2001, 2001) but also has a variety of other functions (Nayak et al, 2010 for overview). Cells of the monocyte / macrophage lineage have been shown to be the major source of C1q biosynthesis (Petri et al, 2001).
