This peptide from amphibian skin of the Chinese red belly toad Bombina maxima is related to bradykinin and corresponds to an extended form of Bradykinin [DLPKINRKGP-bradykinin; DLPKINRKGPRPPGFSPFR]. The gene has been cloned by Lai et al (2001) and shown to contain multiple copies of this peptide, which is being referred to also as Maximakinin.
Lee et al (2005) have cloned two novel cDNAs encoding bombinakinin M and its variants. Bombinakinin M has been shown to elicit concentration-dependent contractile effects on guinea pig ileum, with an EC50 value of 4 nM that is four times higher than that of bradykinin. The synthetic
