This term pertains to the dynamic emergence of plasma membrane protrusions called blebs or plasma membrane blebs, described originally as hyaline blisters or bubbles (Hogue, 1919). Blebbing (sometimes membrane budding/blebbing) is observed in response to multiple mechanical and chemical stimuli in many different cell types, including cancer cells. It is a characteristic feature of injured cells and plays a critical role in the global mechanical homeostasis of the cell through regulation of membrane tension (Norman et al, 2010). The blebbing process is often rapid and reversible, involves extensive reorganisation of the microfilament cytoskeleton, and is observed commonly during processes such as cell movement, cytokinesis, cell spreading
