BEN domain

[BEN domains]

The BEN domain is an alpha-helical protein module with four conserved helices. It is found in various chromatin factors and is named after experimentally characterized proteins in which it was observed first: BANP [BTG3 associated nuclear protein], E5R (chordopoxvirus virosomal protein), and NAC1 (BTBD14B [BTB/POZ domain-containing protein 14B] or NACC1 [nucleus accumbens associated 1]) (Abhiman et al, 2008).

The Drosophila melanogaster protein mod(mdg4) contains a BEN domain. Many BEN domain proteins have 2-4 tandem copies of the domain. Abhiman et al (2008) have suggested that the occurrence of might facilitate the formation of multimeric assemblies through helix-helix interactions.

The domain has been found in several transcription factors ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
