abbr. for Bam HI C fragment rightward reading frame. This is a gene found in the genome of Epstein-Barr virus. It encodes a protein of 145 amino acids that specifically inhibits the synthesis of IFN-gamma. BCRF-1 closely resembles IL10 and, therefore, is called also viral IL10 (vIL10) or EBV IL10 to distinguish it from related viral proteins.
