This protein domain contains cysteine-rich zinc-binding motifs and is found in several unrelated proteins (Borden, 1998). This domain mediates protein-protein interactions. The domain often occurs in conjunction with other domains such as a RING finger domain and a coiled-coil domain (RBCC proteins). Some of these proteins have been shown to be involved in apoptosis (for an example see Ret finger protein, MAIR).
