Arylphorins

[Arylphorin]

Arylphorins are high molecular weight complexes composed of six subunits (alpha-arylphorin and beta-arylphorin) identified originally by Kramer et al (1980) in the hemolymph of tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta) larvae and pupae and termed Manducin. These subunits (alpha and beta) may or may not be identical (Telfer and Kunkel, 1991; Haunerland, 1996).

Telfer et al (1983) have referred to a protein from Hyalophora cecropia (Lepidoptera) as arylphorin due to its high content of aromatic amino acids. This term has been adapted to refer to proteins from other insect orders with a similar amino acid composition even though arylphorins of different insect orders are not particularly related. However, they form hexameric structures, and many of these so-called hexamerins ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
