Apoptin

a protein of 121 amino acids encoded by chicken anemia virus. Apoptin is a 13 kDa nonstructural viral protein encoded by the viral VP3 gene (chicken anemia virus VP3 protein) (Noteborn, 2004). Non-structural protein VP2 has been shown to directly interact with Apoptin in the nucleus, which down-regulates apoptosis through alterations in the phosphorylation status of Apoptin (Lai et al, 2017). The equivalent protein in porcine circovirus type 2 is circovirus type 2 orf3 (for overview of related proteins see also: Zhang Y et al, 2021).
