Allatotropin

Allatotropin is a neuropeptide / neurohormone of 13 amino acids (GFKNVEMMTARGFamide) isolated originally from the brain of Manduca sexta (Kataoka et al, 1989). It has been found also in several other insect species (Elekonich and Horodyski, 2003; Veenstra and Costes, 1999; Truesdell et al, 2000; Park et al, 2002; Abdel-latief et al, 2003; Neupert et al, 2008; Sterkel et al, 2010; Adami et al, 2011). Allatropin is expressed in both the central and enteric nervous systems (Taylor et al, 1996; Bhat and Horodyski, 1999), and splice variants appear to be regulated in a tissue-specific manner (Horodyski et al, 2001; Lee et al, 2002).

Allatotropin acts as a neurohormone, as well as a neuromodulator. It stimulates the secretion of juvenile hormones ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
