ARK5
[AMPK-related protein kinase 5] The cDNA has been cloned by Nagase et al (1998) as KIAA0537. The approved gene symbol is NUAK1 [NUAK family SNF1-like kinase 1]
ARK5 is a member of a family of serine/threonine protein kinases. ARK5 shares significant homology with several other AMP-activated protein kinases. It has been identified by Suzuki et al (2003).
ARK5 has been shown to induce tumor cell survival during nutrient starvation (Suzuki et al, 2003). Expression of ARK5 in human hepatoma HepG2 cells, which undergo necrotic cell death within 24 h after the start of glucose starvation in a process requiring caspase-8, prevents
