AREB6

the cDNA encoding the zinc finger protein AREB6 has been cloned by Watanabe et al (1993). The protein binds to the regulatory element of the Na+/K+ ATPase alpha-1 subunit gene (Atp1a1), the enzyme responsible for maintaining the Na+ and K+ gradient across the cell membrane using the energy of ATP hydrolysis. AREB6 is a transcription factor identical with TCF-8 [transcription factor 8].
