AK155 is a sequence homolog of IL10 (25 % identical and 47 % similar to IL10). The AK155 gene maps to chromosome 12q15 in the vicinity of the IFN-gamma gene and the gene encoding IL22 (IL-TIF) (Dumoutier et al, 2000). The protein forms homodimers similarly to IL10. In databanks the designation IL26 is used for this protein, and this is now the approved gene symbol (note: the designation IL26 has been proposed also for ML-1, the sequence of which differs from that of AK155).
The AK155 gene is overexpressed and secreted specifically in T-cells transformed by herpesvirus saimiri (Knappe et al, 2000). AK155 is transcribed at low levels in some T-cell
