[a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain 11; ADAM metallopeptidase domain 11] This protein is known also by its gene symbol MDC [metalloproteinase-like disintegrin-like cysteine-rich protein]. The protein is a member of the ADAM protein family and was identified originally as a candidate tumor suppressor gene for human breast cancer. The protein is expressed widely and expression is high in the brain. The gene gives rise to an alternative truncated form.
