The synthetic 6-aP peptide (KSVRGKGKGQKRKRKKSRYK) corresponds to a domain of VEGF encoded by exon 6a. 6a-P bind heparan sulfate proteoglycan. Lee TY et al (2010) have demonstrated that this peptide has anti-angiogenic property. 6-aP prevents VEGF-165 binding to several different cell types and inhibits endothelial cell migration. In vivo, the peptide acts as an anticancer peptide that inhibits tumor growth in mice with transplanted mouse Lewis lung carcinoma and human liposarcoma tumors.
