(ATCC: HTB-9 = subline of 5637) Human cell line with epithelial-like characteristics established from a bladder carcinoma of a 68 year old male patient. 5637 cells lack a functional retinoblastoma protein, Rb. Matin et al (2001) have shown that the cells also do not express the p48 subunit of ISGF-3 (see: IRS).
5637 cells proliferate in response to a variety of growth factors, including IL2, IL3, G-CSF, GM-CSF, and M-CSF.
