2ar has been identified originally as a murine gene inducible by 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate both in JB6 epidermal cells and a variety of cultured mouse cell lines in vitro and in epidermis in vivo (Craig et al, 1989). The same gene has been described independently as OTS5.
Serum and certain growth factors also induce 2ar mRNA in serum-deprived quiescent fibroblasts, and elevated levels of this mRNA are observed following neoplastic transformation of cells (Senger et al, 1989).
