Suppressin is a 63 kDa protein (496 amino acids in rats; 497 amino acids in humans) isolated from bovine pituitary glands (LeBoeuf et al, 1990). Ban et al (1993) have reported that suppressin production in the pituitary is restricted to the adenohypophysis. In the pituitary suppressin is expressed by somatotrophs, lactotrophs, corticotrophs, thyrotrophs, and mammosomatotrophs. Gonadotrophs do not produce suppressin.
