approved gene symbol: ska. Scaramanga is a mutation identified by Howard and Gusterson (2000) in the A/J strain of mice. Scaramanga homozygote show defects in mammary gland development characterized by hypoplastic or absent number 3 mammary buds and also supernumerary glands. Howard et al (2005) have reported that the scaramanga allele is due to mutation of the rrbb4 ligand, Neuregulin-3, which is thought to provide a specification signal for mammary buds.
