Sarcotoxins are bactericidal proteins produced by fat body cells and purified from the haemolymph of Sarcophaga peregrina (flesh-fly) larvae.
Sarcotoxin-1 has been shown to be a mixture of three proteins of 39 amino acids
sarcotoxin-1A (GWLKKIGKKIERVGQHTRDATIQGLGIAQQAANVAATARamide),
sarcotoxin-1B (GWLKKIGKKIERVGQHTRDATIQVIGVAQQAANVAATARamide),
sarcotoxin-1C (GWLRKIGKKIERVGQHTRDATIQVLGIAQQAANVAATARamide),
which differ in only 2-3 amino acid residues (Okada and Natori, 1985). The sequences show that these proteins are members of the cecropin family of antibacterial proteins. Sarcotoxin-1
