Penaeidins are a family of antimicrobial peptides of 47-74 amino acids isolated originally from the hemolymph of the shrimp Penaeus vannamei (Pacific white shrimp) (Destoumieux et al, 1997), black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) (Supungul et al, 2002; Chen et al, 2004; Chiou et al, 2007), and are found also in Litopenaeus vannamei and Litopenaeus setiferus (Atlantic white shrimp) (Cuthbertson et al, 2002), Litopenaeus stylirostris (blue shrimp) (Munoz et al, 2004), Litopenaeus schmitti and Farfantepenaeus paulensis (pink shrimp) (Barracco et al, 2005), and Chinese shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis (Fenchi-penaeidin 5-1 and Fenchi-penaeidin 5-2) (Kang et al, 2004, 2006). Penaeidins can be grouped into distinct classes and exist in multiple isoforms (Cuthbertson et al, 2008). Each penaeidin
