neuroserpin

This protein is a member of the family of serine protease inhibitors known as serpins. It has been given the designation SERPINI1 [serpin peptidase inhibitor clade I member 1]. The protein is known also as PI12 [protease inhibitor 12]. The human gene has been cloned by Schrimpf et al (1997).

Neuroserpin has been identified as a secreted protein (Ishigami et al, 2007. It is expressed mainly in the brain and peripheral nervous system (Osterwalder T et al, 1996). The protein is expressed in the late stages of neurogenesis during the process of synapse formation (Stoeckli et al, 1989; for overview see also: Galliciotti G, Sonderegger, 2006).
