Lycotoxin-1 (IWLTALKFLGKHAAKHLAKQQLSKLamide) and
Lycotoxin-2 (KIKWFKTMKSIAKFIAKEQMKKHLGGE-OH) are two peptide toxins with antimicrobial pore-forming activity identified from venom of the wolf spider Lycosa carolinensis (Araneae: Lycosidae) by virtue of their abilities to reduce ion and voltage gradients across membranes (Yan and Adams, 1998). Lycotoxin-2 is highly related to lycocitin-3 found in another wolf spider species.
Both lycotoxins potently inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Candida glabrata at micromolar concentrations.
