Kassorin M (FLEGLLNTVTGLLamide) and Kassorin S (FLGGILNTITGLLamide) are two innate immune system peptides isolated from skin secretions of two species of African hyperoliid frogs, Kassina maculata and Kassina senegalensis. Both C-terminally amidated tridecapeptides elicit histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells. Kassorin S, but not kassorin M, possesses antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Kassorin M, but not Kassorin S, can contract the smooth muscle of guinea pig urinary bladder (Chen et al, 2011).
