(abbr. from Japanese ju-nana for 17) The oncogene v-jun is the putative transforming gene of avian sarcoma virus 17 which induces fibrosarcomas in chickens and can transform a number of avian cell types in vitro by the action of v-jun.
The human c-jun gene maps to chromosome 1p31-p32. The human gene does not contain introns and displays approximately 80 % sequence identity with the viral gene. jun belongs to a family of related genes that includes junD and junB.
