Formaecin-1 (GRPNPVNNKPTPHPRL) and Formaecin-2 (GRPNPVNTKPTPYPRL) are antibacterial peptides identified in the Red bulldog ant Myrmecia gulosa. These two peptides are synthesized in response to bacterial infections. Both peptides are rich in proline (approximately 30 %), and carry N-acetylgalactosamine O-linked to a conserved threonine residue. Non-glycosylated isoforms are markedly less bioactive.
