Dominulin A (INWKKIAEVGGKILSSL) and Dominulin B (INWKKIAEIGKQVLSAL) have been found on the cuticle and in the venom of females of the social paper wasp Polistes dominulus (Turillazzi et al, 2006). Both proteins belong to the family of mastoparans, a class of peptides found in the venom of other Aculeate hymenoptera. The peptides are active against Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria.
For other proteins/peptides with functions in innate immunity and/or antimicrobial activities see also: Innate immunity and defense peptides Dictionary.
