[apidaecin-type peptides] Apidaecins are heat-stable, non-helical antibacterial (bacteriostatic) peptides isolated from lymph fluid of the honeybee (Apis mellifera). These peptides are the most prominent components of the honeybee humoral defense against microbial invasion. Inactive proforms are found at high concentrations in larvae.
