[Wnt family member 8b; wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 8b] Wnt-8b is one member of the so-called Wnt family of proteins (Nusse et al, 1991). The human gene has been identified by Lako et al (1996). The gene is expressed predominantly in the developing forebrain, confined to discrete regions of the germinative neuroepithelium (Lako et al, 1998; Richardson et al, 1999).
Saitoh et al (2002) have reported upregulation of Wnt-8b mRNA in human gastric cancer. Katoh and Katoh (2007) have reported expression of Wnt-8b in gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and embryonal tumors.
