[Wnt family member 11; wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 11] Wnt-11 is a member of the Wnt family of structurally related genes that encode secreted extracellular signaling factors. The murine gene has been cloned by Adamson et al (1994). The human Wnt-11 gene encodes a protein of 354 amino acids protein (Lako et al, 1998; Kirikoshi et al, 2001). Wnt-11 is expressed in the tips of ureteric buds and in the perichondrium that surrounds future bones and directs their growth and regeneration. Human Wnt-11 is expressed also in a variety of other tissues but not expressed in the neuroepithelium of the central nervous system.
